Armenian Cuisine

As Armenia is one of the ancient courtiers of the world, Armenian Cuisine is deeply rooted as well. In the 9-7th centuries B.C. the dwellers of Armenia were engaged in agriculture. During the excavations karases ( large wine jars) were founded.

Armenia is rich with fruites, vegetables, and herbs.

Armenian traditional bread is lavash which is baked in the tonir. Bread is the main and holy food for the Armenians, the proof of which is the fact that the Armenians call << Have bread >> when they eat something. You can keep this bread for 3-4 months. Armenian cuisine is rich with spices and dresses. Armenian basturma  (dry meat with chaman ) and sugux are proof of it.

Armenian national dishes are dollma (rolling with grapevines or cabbage leaves) , harisa (  German wheat pilaf with small slices of chicken), khorovatz (barbecue), spas  ( tan with wealth),pasucdollma  (rolling with different kinds of groceries), spinach,   stewed spinach, ajapsandal  ( with different vegetables) ,matsun ( like yogurt)  and of course khashe (dense bouillon like consommé of beef legs ). It is cooked very long (about 10 hours) on the small fire. It is a very spectacular show to see how an Armenian eats KHASH.  etc.. But you can find pizzas, dounats,  oriental cuisine various kinds of salads and other dishes here too.

Armenian national desserts are gata, phaxlava and so on.

The variety of fast food places, pizzas, restaurants, cafes will astonish you.

Armenian Beverages

Armenia is the first country in the world where grapevines were planted by our ancestor Noy. Armenian wine is a result of the Armenians brave struggles. It is Cod’s blood, the holies beverage of the world.  Armenia produces over 100 different brands of wines, 20 brands of brandies and 9brands of sparkling wine and champagne. There are the ordinary, fine and collectible wines, which break down by their composition into: table , fortified  and aromatic  wines. Armenian  cognacs  are  classified as: ordinary, fine and collectible.

As Armenia is a mountainous land there are a lot mineral water springs of various physic-chemical combinations, some of which are world wide famous: Jermuk, Diligan, Arzni, Bjni and so on. Moreover the Armenians prefer to drink the simple water that we get from the mountain springs and are pure without any filtration.
