Museums
There are
numerous museums in Armenia, the majority of which are
located in Yerevan. Each museum has its own interest and
charm. The entrance fees are different from
200-1000Armenian dram, some of them are free of charge.
Each museum has its own guides in different languages
and the prices for the guides are from 2000-4000.Here is
the brief descriptions of the museums located in

National museum of the history of Armenia -
The museum comprises the departments of history,
archaeology, ethnography , arts and letters. The
collection numbers 300.000 exhibits of great scientific
and instructive value for studying the ancient history
of Armenia. A special hall is assigned to the displays
of Urartu. Impressive are the cuneiform
inscriptions discovered in Erebuni, the statuettes of
the gods, warriors, weapons, clay-made jars for wine,
iron instruments and so on. Here the visitor gets a
glimpse of the 7th-8th centuries architectural vestiges,
feminized with the model of temple Zvartnots. Here are
numerous xachkars (cross-stones).

National Art Gallery of Armenia- This museum was
founded in 1921. It consists of 7 floors. Its collection
exceeds 19.000 specimens shown in the Russian, Armenian
and West European divisions of paintings, sculptures,
graphic and applied arts. The section of the Armenian
middle ages exhibits imitations of canvases by the
miniaturists Toros Roslin, Sarkis Pitsaq and others. In
monographic presentations you can find the works of the
20th century classical artists.

Madenadaran-
This is the research institute of old manuscripts named
after Mesrop Mashtots. In number and value of
manuscripts this establishment is considered one of the
world's oldest and richest treasure-troves.. Stocked
here is the treasure able age long heritage
of Armenian culture. Here are more then 13.000
hand-written books and fragments, a large number of
unique manuscripts in different languages. Here are the
biggest and the smallest books.
Matenadaran is guarded by the statue of Mashtots
and those of the other main figures of Armenian
literature: Movses Khorenatsi ( "father of Armenian
history"); T'oros Roslin (13th c. manuscript
illuminator); Grigor Tatevatsi (theologian of Tatev
Monastery); Anania Shirakatsi (7th c. mathematician);
Mkhitar Gosh (cleric and law codifier); and Frik (13th
c. poet). There are khachkars and other ancient carved
stones in the side porticos. The entry hall has a mosaic
of the Battle of Avarayr, and the central stair frescos
of Armenian history. Beside the exhibit hall there are
conservation rooms and shelves (closed except to
specialists with advance permission) for the 17000
manuscripts in a dozen languages.

Erebuni Museum-This
the foundation museum of Yerevan city. In 1968 when the
2750 anniversary of the city was celebrated, this museum
was opened, where you can find everything discovered
during the excavations of different Armenian cities:
water-tubs, statuettes, ornaments, weapons and 23
cuneiform inscriptions, one of which divulges the
foundation of Yerevan. On the top of this museum you can
have a look at the ruins of fortress Erebuni.

History Musuem of Yerevan-This
musuem was established in 1931 and in 2005 it was moved
to the newly finished building of the city
council..About 55.000 samples are here, which reflect
the history of Yerevan. The first hall demonstrates
speciments of material culture, the seond hall deals
with the foundation of the citty, in the third
hall you will find weapons, helmets, remnants of
agricultural products, wine jars, vessels of making beer
and so on. The exibits of the forth and the fifth halls
highlight the history of early medieval Yerevan.

National Museum of Nature-
This was founded in 1960. The exposition acquaints the
visitors with the general geographical features of
Armenia. Relief and geological maps of the plant
kingdom, tourist maps, diagrams, all-round impressions
of the climatic specifies, natural belts and so on.

Museum of Folk Art- This museum was instituted in
1937and even since it has collected the most diverse
objects on old-time mode of living, popularizing the
rich traditions of national applied arts. Here are 3200
samples, some of which are the gifts of the Diaspora. It
houses articles of craftsmen skilled in wood, stone and
metal carving, different types of carpets, exquisite
silver filigree, ceramic ware, needle-works.

Museum of Genocide-This was opened in 1965
devoted the 50th anniversary of the 1915 massacre made
by Turkish government. Here you will find all the
documents, books, pictures and the impressions of
worldwide outstanding persons about Genocide. Here is
the list of countries that have already accepted this
fact.
